I regret to say it is the 1978 performance . Never warmed to it at all.

I'm not a Bernie fan but I'll definitely buy this when it's released:

I'm waiting for hmv to get it on its database - hoping for £8.99.

It really is Bernard's sort of work isn't it?

I have always loved the LPO version but this has something still extra.

The percussion led coda is more atmospherically (and accurately) done for one thing.

You've got me there, Alison. How is the SACD mix any more accurate, other than in audio definition terms, than the CD issue?

The Concertgebouw percussionists are more crisply co-ordinated .... as Edward Greenfield might put it :)

Sir Bernard on home territory for DSCH Symphony 15 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

A marvellously probing account, superbly played.

If this were Carlos Kleiber everyone would be drooling over fresh wonders at every turn !

Am I right in thinking that the Haitink/RCO Shostakovich 15 CD only has that one piece on it?

It is a marvellous performance and recording, but I'm afraid that's it on this CD.

You are absolutely right, Alison. Sir Bernard puts all other DSCH 15s in the shade. I love his Jenufa as well. I am currently enjoying his LSO Brahms symphonies; different from the gorgeous COE versions at the Proms, but then you would expect that with the number of players.

One unlikely in some ways one might think record I had overlooked Brendel and Haitink in the Liszt Paino Concertos - tremendous energy without vulgarity.
