I posted only the other week about how wonderful the Campoli Tchaikovsky recording was .
I think Warner and EMI before it are missing a trick - just look at the success of Australian Eloquence . There must be all manner of 1950s treasures that have never been re-released . Salymap's much loved performance of the Dvorak Concerto with Tortelier and Sargent springs to mind .

At school, around 1960, our inspiring teacher of 'music appreciation' was Peter Fletcher. Anyone remember him?
He introduced us to Campoli's playing and told us that he was downgraded by the cognoscenti, quite wrongly, because he played so much 'salon' music. As a classical musician he was Campoli, but as a salon musician he was Alfredo Campoli...

I have a CD with the Beethoven (Campoli/Boult) which is coupled with an absolutely dazzling Mendelssohn (Campoli/Krips) When I first listened to the Mendelssohn it seemed to be in a league of its own. Top recommendation, IMVHO!
