Boccherini Music of the Angels - Isserlis

I have had this a couple of months but have only just got round to playing it. What a delightful record - immensely stylish a mix of Boccherini concertos and chamber music with the OAE and guest chamber musicians .

Isserlis directs from the cello too.

I think he's a greatly underrated composer. I've recently been listening to some of his chamber music in nice performances from the 90s by Chiara Banchini's Ensemble 415.

Greatly underrated indeed! Someone once said, that Boccherini was the greatest unknown composer, and there is a lot in that. Those String Quintets! There's nothing quite like them, and the Quartets and chamber music with piano is superb also.

Boccherini does things very differently from Haydn or Mozart, but this is music of comparable stature, without any shadow of doubt.
