Sorry, Barbs, yes. I have the CD (MQA version bought in HK). Bought for the Prokofiev rather than the Sibelius. Nothing with which to scare the horses à la Pat Kop. Very fine fiddle-playing - with good accompaniment from KM and the Oslo Phil. Excellent recording. I've played it quite often in the past few months.

I probably did when it was a new release, but I haven't kept it in my favo(u)rites.

Extracts from some reviews here on the Presto site:

Sibelius & Prokofiev: Violin Concertos. Decca: 4854748. Buy CD or download online. Janine Jansen (violin) Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Klaus Mäkelä

If you’re thinking of investing, do not hesitate. In fact, I can’t think of a recording of hers that I wouldn’t immediately put at the top of the pile. She’s an absolutely marvellous player, imho.

It's on its way . I agree - when I bought her Brahms concerto after a very favourable Gramophone review I swiftly found myself snapping up her other concerto recordings .

Just re-streamed and understood why I didn't keep it as a favourite.
Not at all for me, I'm sorry to say.
I really don't like the violin tone (or indeed the playing).
But then, she is up against Ida Haendel....

Just listened to it on my short holiday away . I like her playing as much as ever but on first hearing she sounds very forward in the balance and it’s as if Makela goes all out for a big rather grand accompaniment in both concertos . Will listen on main system at home and see if sounds the same .

Have put on Vilde Frang’s Elgar after and that sounds better balanced to me .

I should add that much as I love Ms. Jansen’s recording of the Sibelius, she’s not quite in the same league as Ida Haendel!

                    Who is ?

In this concerto I only find -Camilla Wicks,Heifetz/Beecham and Ginette Neveu in quite the same league - despite the many excellent others I own from Batiashvili, Francescatti,Frang,KWC,Mullova,Mutter,Oistrakh ,Perlman ,Zukerman and now Jansen.

                      There’s also Spivakovsky/Hannikainen!

For me it's a case of the imprint of the first recording I had, Oistrakh/Ormandy. It's one of those pieces where Oistrakh manages the structure of the piece and maintains amazing intensity.

In this video, she's accompanied by the SWR Symphonieorchester, conductor Christoph Eschenbach ...

The recording with the Oslo Phil and Makela is also on YouTube for immediate audition but is uploaded in its 3 separate movements.
