Kyoko Takezawa - whatever happened to ?

Seeing a recording of the Barber VC with KT as the soloist coupled with the splendid Isserlis version of the Cello Concerto . I wondered what happened to this excellent violinist . She made a recording of the Elgar with Colin Davis that was very fine and much better than his accounts with Hahn and Znaider IMO.

She seems to have made a rush of recordings for RCA in the early 1990s and then stopped ? I wonder what happened to her career.

ps that Barber is very good too.

'...one of the best of her gereration... a sought-after soloist' said RCA when her Brahms concerto (aso with Colin Davis) appeared.

There are of course many reasons why a musician disappears: injury, change of career, dislike of pressure, etc. One I missed was the cellist Marius May, who, in his teens fifty years ago ,had a remarkably mature tone and interpretation which reminded me of Pierre Fournier. He seemd set for a fine career, but then nothing.

I too am an admirer of Ms. Takezawa and have all her recordings. I was lucky enough to hear her live once when she stepped in at the last moment to cover an ailing Ida Haendel who was playing with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. (Bad news and good news! Ida Haendel is sick BUT K.T is the substitute!)

She seemed to centre her career around the USA and there may be reasons why she doesn’t leave these shores. Her Wiki entry tells us nothing about her although I believe that she serves on the Jurys for American violin competitions. I really wish she would play in the UK as, imho, she’s a first class artist.

Marius May was performing into the 1980s - I heard him play the Elgar in Liverpool in 1980 - and when I was a student in Manchester he was teaching there, although I don't recall ever seeing him in the building. Sadly he died a few years ago - Stephen Isserlis wrote a heartfelt tribute to him - https://stevenisserlis.com/marius-may-1958-2020/

'...deeply serious interpreter... inimitable sound...' yes, that's how I remember Marius May. Many thanks , Roslynmuse, for that link.
