References to Spotify and the like brings in new considerations. I think that if I were even twenty years younger, I'd have a different attitude to streaming - just as I might about kindle e-books. As it is, the over forty years of buying a physical object (LP, cassette, CD, DVD - the pristine case, the shiny new disc, checking the surface quality of a second-hand disc, the gentle shredding of the booklet as you try to negotiate it out of the jewel case - and the low sound quality on my computer, means that I gain pleasure from the object itself. And the sheer FAFF trying to retrieve my Download purchases when my last laptop finally gave up the ghost doesn't encourage much faith in that direction, either - downloads get burnt to CD immediately now, the digital information clogging up the C-drive space in ways I find more anxiety-causing than any number of shelves in the house.
