We've been discussing Hickox, who died at 60. And what about the bad swimmers, like Kertesz...

Or strokes (Josef Strauss) or just bad falls (Gustav Holst).

... or Felix Mottl and Joseph Keilberth who both died at exactly the same point in the score when conducting Tristan und Isolde.

Can't help noticing that (Hickox aside) these early deaths conductors aren't renowned for their RVW interpretations. Think on!

It was sadly of course fatal for Mariss's father Arvid .

...and not many of them dying to conduct RVW.

Mention of Arvid gives me fond memories of seeing him conduct the Halle in the late 60s and I think considered as JB's successor.

Alkan was hit on the head by the Talmud. Nowadays it would be a 50 CD bumper set.

Gramophone magazine is offering free tickers to hear Our Nev speak about his long career at Foyle's next week. No I hadn't realised he'd worked there either!

Yes, I have. Strongly recommended! I am going to stick my neck out and say Sir Andrew Davis and Richard Hickox
