Aha!
Googling around a bit, you soon discover that BIS did indeed record some DSD masters up to 2005. Some devotees on SACD.net are upset that they stopped...!
And you find a 2009 statement from Ingo Petry saying that they always mastered in PCM from then on, converting to DSD at the last possible moment - they simply preferred the results doing it that way. Most of my many BIS HIRes recordings (including the latest, Oramo Nielsen Cycle) state the "original format" as 24-bit/44.1 etc., (a few don't mention it at all) though the equipment list often includes the Pyramix dsd workstation, or credits the SACD authoring of course. The current eclassical website has much detail on PCM, just the basics on DSD. I guess they could be recording some that way again, but why is it never stated, when BIS are so precise about such things..? (The Aho 12th multi-ch.SACD mentioned in the Fanfare article is from another 24/44.1 original format, btw...)
(The BIS People often make the point that there's far more to a recording than its native format - and the gorgeous, mysterious Japanese CD editions certainly confirm that!)
.
If Linn used DSD recording, it would seem odd that, on their very detailed webpages, they never mention DSD as a mastering format or offer it as a download... it's all about PCM Studio Masters... why keep it quiet? And Linn DS/DSM players don't play DSD...
I did highlight some time ago that HiFiNews had analysed some recordings offered as HIRes downloads and found them to be upsampled. They made a good old fuss about it, took it up with the various companies, HD Tracks got very upset too, and I doubt many labels would dare to do it now!
Better go & study what the TeddyBear said about copy&paste, copying links by hand is a real pain... thanks, Cuddly!
