Why won't they release it?

I'd add another vote for The Mask of Time, though I do still have the LPs. Oddly, I was thinking about it last weekend, reflecting that I'd play extracts from it regularly if I had the CD format.

I took my eldest son to hear it when he was in his teens, on one of those excellent Tippett days. The other day, (he's now 40 and not into classical music, alas) he said to me, in an ordinary exchange, with a mischievous twinkle, 'thank you, and the air is cool', recalling the way we used to make fun of one of the less impressive sections of The Mask, in the weeks after we'd heard it. Out of the blue! We'd not referred to it for years; since then, in fact!

Now I'm not sure what this proves, but if there was a CD version, I could buy him a speculative Christmas present I suppose...

They did a few years back but only a few lasted in the catalogue .

Let's start with the Kletzki Scheherazade and the Leonid Kogan Beethoven Concerto !

A sad rump of CFP still available -even Natalie Clein's relatively recent and excellent Brahms Cello Sonatas record has been deleted

Browse classical recordings available to buy in the Classics for Pleasure series. The nation's favourite budget CD label. Launched in 1970, Classics for Pleasure soon became the biggest-selling and best-loved UK classical budget...

Luckily I still have both of the teen-purchases! The Co-op revolving display stand was my introduction to CfP!

The Kogan is (or 'was?') on the double CD set EMI 'artist profile' range, which I found aeons ago in an MDC 'bargain bucket' sale

I don't think EMI produce a big range in this series - I only have the one I mentioned, and Kletzki - which doesn't include Scheherezade.

Does anyone know, out of interest if they produced any others in this range? Just curious, that's all.....

and the Campoli Bruch/Saint Saens that had the violin in a puddle on the Ace of Clubs release - I've got both on MP3 downloads but I'm sure they can be transferred better.

              Also...........
              Kremer Ysaye sonatas
Ricci/Smith Sarasate dances (vastly superior to his earlier version)

I can take guess why this Deutsche Grammophon Joseph Keilberth release may never be reissued. Maybe my guess would be wrong?

Available, however, in mp3 format from amazon.co.uk etc., or direct from the DG site in FLAC format.

Thanks Bryn, rather stupidly, I have only been searching for the CD. I had the CD but somehow it has been lost.

I've been patiently waiting for this to be reissued. It's been out of the catalogue for years now. Why won't EMI release it? Still no sign.

Anyone else got any recordings that they want to see released, but there's no sight on the horizon?
Northumbrian/North country Songs by Brannigan/Moore. Originally on Decca(I think) 45's

You could try putting it into eBay on a watch for/wanted list - sometimes gets things which are rare. You are currently right that it seems difficult to get, so might take a while for a copy to emerge.

Alison you're absolutely right there - there's all the Enigma stuff - Complete Beethoven Syms, an excellent complete repeats Schubert 9 among others - all disappeared off the recorded music radar - never been on CD!

                            I tried that, no luck.

As I hope you noticed, the DG FLACs are cheaper than the Amazon 256kbps VBR joint stereo mp3s.
