Of course! I actually meant fourth, but couldn't be bothered to correct it - knowing that those who know their Tippetts, would understand

        Well, it's a nice thought, a MT 5th!

That's the one! I have the LP (with notes by W A Chislett) and just looking at it induces instant nostalgia. Nothing to play it on though!

Spent 15 minutes trying to locate mine.
Tend to transfer a few similar items around this time - so will do this (originally a Columbia 33SX).
My copy is quite mint (originally bought Jan'68) - obtained in an auction-lot.

Bought mine in August 1968 and played it to death. If you could do a copy would much appreciate it. Please PM me.

I'll drop a blog link on this thread (not used the PM malarky)...as will upload it (possibly with the 1961 stereo WRC 'Kismet' conducted by Kenneth Alwyn - also never on CD - from the same 'lot') in a few weeks time - as 16/44 + (maybe) 24/96.

It's on release, but can we have a sensibly priced Kubelik Parsifal? It's 2014 and we don't pay £36 for a 4 CD set, anymore.

It's strange that this seems never to have made it to CD. Since it wasn't originally a regular EMI recording (wasn't it on a label called Waverley?), it didn't get into the big EMI Boult/Elgar box that has so many great things in it.

It's some consolation that while we don't have Boult's SNO Elgar 2, we do now have his live BBCSO performance from the 1977 Proms on ICA Classics which is something of a marvel. And that's as well as the HMV set originally on 78s, the Lyrita and EMI studio recordings, and... (off the top of my head, that's it, but I may well have missed one).

There may not be many fans of Gilbert Vinter's "The Trumpets" out there, but ever since I worked at Weinberger's (who publish it) 30+ years ago, I've had a very soft spot for it - there's some fantastic brass writing, and it's rather a glorious noise.

One recording has been reissued on CD, but the one with Owen Brannigan, conducted by Vinter himself (HMV CSD 3564) hasn't ever made it to CD as far as I know and I'd love to hear it again.

Speaking of things brassy, one of Andrew Davis's first recordings was a programme called "Crown Imperial" (CFP198) that included the only recording I've ever come across of Bliss's arrangement of the National Anthem, which I remember as being rather wonderful. I don't think that's ever been on CD either - though most of the LP has been reissued. I'd love someone to tell me I'm wrong about that.

Anja Thauer's 2 DG albums ( though the Dvorak has appeared on an obscure German label and magnificent it is too )

The Campoli/Pritchard Beethoven Violin Concerto , Tortelier and Sargent in the Dvorak Cello Concerto .
