    Why won't they release it?

Michael Tippett - The Mask Of Time. EMI

I've been patiently waiting for this to be reissued. It's been out of the catalogue for years now. Why won't EMI release it? Still no sign.

Anyone else got any recordings that they want to see released, but there's no sight on the horizon?

Roehre has said that Haitink recorded the Brahms symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic so they would be a prime candidate.

I was also at a LSO concert where the Bizet Symphony and La Mer were taped but have never appeared.

The oft-promised but never fulfilled CD release of the DECCA HEADLINE LP of Brian Ferneyhough's Transit.

        I guess they don't Warner.

Sadly, it's as if Tippett is almost persona non grata! Out of 'fashion?' Licensing issues? Recording rights? What's going on? I LOVE his fifth symphony....

PS I almost forgot; in answer to your question - yes - I wish they would release a CD of Shostakovich's symphony no. 12, with Georges PrĂȘtre conducting - I think - the Philharmonia. It was a CfP release in the 1970s.

I do agree about the Tippett.

Wasn't there talk of Richard Barrett's Construction being released commercially ?

What a good late night Prom that would make!

It would probably have to be a 7.1 Blu-ray to do it some justice. As I recall, Richard was not that happy with the Radio 3 stereo presentation.

Ah; would that it were, visnick - would that it were!

The first Shostakovich I ever heard - just after the composer's death in 1975.

Ooh never heard of that DSCH 12. Pretre rather underrated I've always felt. Yes reissue please!

As fine an impersonation of the late great Robert Robinson as you're likely to find anywhere

Or even at 7.30 prime-timer. And televised.

Thinking about it, it does seem odd that he appears to have slipped off the radar.

                          I didn't know there was a fifth - I've enjoyed 1-4 for years.

A pretre DSCH 12 would be most welcome.

On reflection, most definitely. A long piece of course so not ideal for last trains and buses.

I did ask RB about a possible release earlier this year (or late last year), but it's not imminent, unless things have moved on.
