CDs, downloads, streaming

Unfortunately, MA, we don't live in a place that has an attic. But, in an ideal world, I do love the physical aspect of holding a CD.

I agree, though nothing will ever beat the smell of newly opened vinyl........
Sitting and reading some really good sleeve notes, on paper not a screen, is definitely one of life's pleasures.

In fact, saddo that I probably am, I have downloaded and printed off some of the better sleeve notes from a number the Avant Garde Project installments, as some of them are works of art in their own right.

Hiya Pulcie. Yes there a re certain sleevenotes that I do really like top read through tem all, eg the Coro CDs of The Sixteen Choir, Harry Christophers. Of which I have a fair number!!!

For various reasons I've been buying and listening to mostly CDs again recently - 2ndhand rarities, or Schnittke on BIS/Chandos, bought simply because I had all the earlier issues on disc...
I guess I never really made up my mind decisively to buy discs or files, I try go with the flow. But now it seems hard to choose once again (and not only with the Mendelssohn).... I guess what I need to resolve it presently is... another 6-shelf library unit.

Or there are these 14 litre stackable storage boxes with lids, costing all of £1 each.

Coloured lidless, somewhat stronger, stackable plastic boxes of similar capacity can be found for the very same price at Poundland. Not as pretty as shelving, but much lower outlay, and very easily rearranged around and beyond the residence.

Not something I have bought in this compilation, but delighted and not a little surprised to see Howard Skempton's Well Well Cornelius included in the newly released download album "Baby Classics - Calm Music to Help Children Fall Asleep".

For those not familiar with the piece, it was composed in response to Cardew's 1981 killing by a hit and run driver.

Very striking suggestions... thanks everyone.... I love those low-slung jali designs... as a stopgap at least....

Problems... old house, lots of wood (mainly dark).... not much wall left for putting shelving against - in the listening room at least.... and a new unit would be mainly for recent aquisitions. (I need to see them, remember what I've just played, or not played, etc.)
Perhaps the true problem is that I love hi-res downloads (and using the computer/hardware/software necessary for playback) but still retain an emotional attachment to CDs, the sound of CDs, and all that goes with them...
