Being able to read a post like yours is one of the best things about this forum. However, I have a question:

This CD may be the most interesting and important recording of this work but would you recommend it to non-specialist listeners who have no such knowledge as the different cadenza or editions but just hope to enjoy listening to the music (I am one of those)? Or do you think the CD is purposely produced for knowledgeable specialists?
Thank you for your kind observation, doversoul.

Yes, I would certainly recommend this recording to 'non-specialist listeners' - primarily on account of the sheer sense of fun with which the performance is imbued, irrespective of any academic or educational considerations.
Regarding your last point, no, I can't think of any record company who would take on the financial risk of publishing a CD aimed only at 'knowledgeable specialists'!

Many thanks for your reply. I could stamp my foot and wave my fist about but I’ll do that off-line . Let’s hope some record company will take up a project as interesting as this of JC Bach one day.

It might also be added that this entire thread was started by someone who, although certainly "knowledgeable", isn't (AFAIK - and I hope I'm not doing him a disservice!) a "specialist" in the field of Mozart Horn concerto scholarship. His infectious enthusiasm and enjoyment of this recording is palpable.

I know which end to blow in, that's about it
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

So you are not as yet familiar with certain 'extended techniques', eh?

Live performance of #4 7th June

I think this is rapidly becoming THE definitive recording
