I don't really do NEW releases except exceptionally, but CDs I've acquired this year and enjoyed greatly include
Marcelle Meyer playing Scarlatti and Bach (such sensibility and line)
Schubert songs from Woffgang Holzmair with Ulrich Eisenlohr at the fortepiano (suddenly the right balance!)
Schubert symphony cycle from the Hanover Band / Roy Goodman
Brooklyn Rider playing Beethoven op 131 and Bartok SQ 2 (two different CDs)

Late addition: I'd always avoided Gordon Fergus-Thompson, possibly because of his Posh Scots name. Pure prejudice. I discover what he knew already. He's first-rate, particularly in Debussy, which is what I've been investing in.

I agree. A beautifully interpreted "Der Tod und das Mädchen". I finally got the whole Naxos Schubert Lieder box this year for a very reasonable price. Well worth it with many less familiar and interesting new voices, all native German speakers.
Another Barbirolli thriller - the Barbirolli Society's Brahms 1 with the Halle in Czecoslovakia in 1958 - edge of your seat stuff - not as well recorded but a similar charge to the live RFH 1988 Karajan !!!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
How did you get this so soon? Thought it was released on January 5th?
Maybe it was released on January 5th 2014?
Or maybe 'M'learned friend' received an 'advance copy' in recognition of the fact that he may well have been one of the various sponsors whose kindness and generosity was instrumental in bringing about this CD?
I've no objection to thumbnail photos and links if that's possible but to fill 2 screen pages with the photos you've taken adds nothing to the fact that you like these 2 discs. It just breaks the thread up.
A fine example of overkill and dumbing down, I think.

I don't know about that. If I don't look at a giant blow-up of Mitsuko Uchida's anguished face at least once day, I start to get withdrawal symptoms.
