Plus: Glenn Gould Brahms Ballades, Rhapsodies and Intermezzi: as near perfect as you can get.

Hmm. Never explored any of Gould, being put off by anyone who has become a cult.

Meanwhile, Lupu's Brahms (a recent discovery) seems unlikely to be surpassed, for me.

Don Petter, do not be put off Glenn Gould because he is a bit cultish (he is). He is also unique and wonderful. Try his Bach recordings, you wont be disappointed.

I think I have an LP of Lupu playing Brahms somewhere, must dig it out.

Where's antongould when you need him!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  Hiya Don,

I fully agree Radu Lupu is wonderful in Brahms piano music. Lupu is still playing in concert and I hope that I will see him one day. I was told recently by Riccardo Chailly that Lupu still has the bushy beard but now it is white. Age comes to us all even me who is given to loosing hair rather than whiteness.

A saw a bearded man from Guadaloupe who
Was a spitting image of Radu Lupu.

EDIT: Now, if only he conducted some G&S ...
