Amazon Logistics for shipping of Amazon Purchases

It seems that Amazon is increasingly using Amazon Logistics as a shipper. On Saturday, I had to stay home until 13:30 waiting for a delivery. I have now ordered a CD and unlike the past this CD is being sent via Amazon Logistics not Royal Mail. I find the use of Amazon Logistics very inconvenient. I live in a secure block of flats and most of my neighbors work so it is impossible to get a delivery. Royal Mail was great as the postman has access. Ironlically, my package on Saturday did not require a signature for receipt.

Just wondering if any other Forum members have experiences?

I don't know what "Amazon Logistics" is. Perhaps we don't have it here? It sounds unwelcome.

      Neither do I!

Our local Co-op has has a fine array of Amazon lockers for some months, but I've never seen anyone using them. Would this be a solution?

It could be a solution. I just don't see why Amazon has dropped Royal Mail. But I am sure they have a reason.

I didn't realise they'd dropped Royal Mail. As far as I can tell, Amazon Logistics is just a man with a car or van, or possibly a woman with a car or van. I've waited until 4 PM.

I had Amazon Prime for a while, but I've just cancelled it because they added £30 to the cost when they included films and television programmes, neither of which I need or want. I just found next day delivery useful. Prime also used Amazon Logistics.

Amazon Logistics is fine for me, but then I'm at home a lot and get irritated if I miss Royal Mail and they take a parcel back to the depot... one thing about Logistics - they try to leave it with a neighbour, or in a nominated "safe place" if you miss them. Royal Mail do neither. BUT Amazon do still use Royal Mail as well, fine for CDs as long as given package fits through your letterbox & doesn't need a signature....

COLLECT+ works very well for returning stuff, & for all I know good for delivery too, if it suits you...

Likewise - never heard of Amazon logistics. All my stuff comes via Royal Mail. Delivery to the depot is nearby and so not a problem. Collect Plus service also very good for returns.

I too shall be cancelling Amazon Prime before my new subscription kicks in in January. Adding a £30 fine for something you neither requested no wanted is highly presumptuous.

Royal Mail delivery personnel are supposed to try to deliver to a neighbour if you are not able to take delivery directly. I have a personal arrangement with the usual Royal Mail postman to leave stuff in which ever wheelie bin is not due for collection (the general rule now is that they should not leave in such places). Amazon Logistics I find more problematic. I tend to have to arrange re-delivery and they do not accept wheelie bins as safe places in their online list. However, a couple of weeks ago it did give me the opportunity/excuse to meet my neighbour across the road, to whom Amazon decided to make the delivery when they caught me out.

I used to have a smooth-running arrangement to have deliveries made to my workplace address, but a non-local senior manager put a stop to that, despite everybody concerned locally being entirely happy with it, (one of the factors leading me to consider looking into alternative work, closer to home).

I guess the river people will use white vans in the cities and more populated areas but use the traditional red van where there are too many rivers to cross.

It sounds as if my long-term decsision never to use Amazon was the right one. Presto sends CDs by Royal Mail and they arrive the next day. If it's a large parcel they use a courier (I never remember names) which gives a one-hour slot for delivery and will always leave with a neighbour if necessary. I see no reason to use a firm with its eyes on world domination.

Slightly off-topic, I wonder if Amazon Logistics works with third party suppliers operating under the Amazon umbrella?

Recently I had to return a very large gadget twice to the supplier, because it was defective, and I had great difficulty getting the courier to pick it up the second time, having to wait in all day twice!

It has been a great help for me as consumer operating within the Amazon guarantee system. May be my position would have been more improved with Amazon Logistics?

I find it a nuisance if they leave things with a neighbour, especially if that neighbour is me. I always arrange re-delivery, which is very easy with Royal Mail. I haven't tried it with Amazon Logistics yet.

Most people I know with Amazon Prime are going to cancel their renewal. Is this some plot by Amazon to get rid of the service?
