I can see the inscription on your tombstone now, Barbs.

"Here lies the last of the big spenders."

I remember quite a few people complaining years back when Phillips issued their "Great Pianists of the 20th Century" series, because Previn was included, but
the likes of Annie Fischer were not. I haven't heard a note of Previn playing the Piano but I guess he must be pretty good.

He was, though now he seems to find it more difficult.

Perhaps he has had a limited recorded piano repertoire in the classical field - Gershwin, a few Mozart concertos (the double concerto several times e.g with Radu Lupu and Alicia de Larrocha), Shostakovich concertos. His Gershwin is up there with the best.

He also recorded a lot of jazz piano - for example - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jazz-Recordi...ds=previn+jazz - though not in a style I particularly appreciate

Try Mendelssohn piano trios, with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lynn Harrell

        Kenneth Leighton's Veris Gratia

It was coupled with Finzi's cello concerto which I adore. (Chandos)

Veris Gratia reminds me a bit of Vaughan Williams' Flos Campi.
It should be better known as it really is beautiful.

This is a great steer. Just had a first listen. Leighton deserves so much more exposure.
            Thanks Suggsy.

Ah my Chandos copy of the Finzi has Leighton's equally interesting Cello Concerto recouped with it - must check out the Veris Gratia.
