I can only say, they do for me: I enjoy the packaging too, booklet with lots of discussion of the music, info about the orchestra, photos, etc. The recordings are excellent for me, but I am not an audiophile.

5 Cds plus booklet for £34 odd? Is that expensive?

No that price is reasonable but I have not seen them at a price less than twice that amount.

I wonder if that's the set that includes the Blu-Ray disc. The version I received was only the SACDs.

Remake remodel! Wonderfully fresh & vital recent issues....
Grab a listen any which way you can....

Thanks for that. Had a listen to the Pastoral on an evening walk, which was a pretty perfect combination in the cool evening spring sunshine.
He manages to get a sound which feels light and lithe, but also with, in the strings, lovely smooth edges, and with available reserves of power when needed.

A sort of Sadio Mane effect.

              Yes indeed.
I miss seeing Sadio in stripes.( and love seeing footballers who seem to just glide ......Beckham, Gullit etc.....)
On the 8th now. And got those chamber symphonies downloading.
Bit of an antidote to the 70’s Miles Davis albums that have seen me through yesterday evening and today .Another path to tread....

The pedant in me thinks I won’t know my last Beethoven “record”. I’m not even sure I can remember my latest Beethoven recording

I'm on my way to hear Feldman's "Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello" at City University Performance Space at the moment. I will try and make time to listen to both Best and Schippers over the next Couple of days.

For now, I will just say I and, by the almost totally absence of coughing or other fidgeting, the rest of the audience (which incuded a fair complement of contemporary music cognoscenti) found it a very fine performance indeed. I will comment further when not restricted by this smartphone.

Appassionata Sonata (op57) played by Rudolf Buchbinder. Fine performance allowing me to hear details I have not always heard in other recordings.
