I wonder if MickeyD is getting Tchaikovsky confused with DSCH that Jarvi recorded for Chandos. Jarvi recorded some of the Tchaikovsky symphonies for BIS recently but I seem to remember they got lukewarm reviews.

      On BIS I think.

Jansens Tchikovsky with Oslo PO is on Chandos.

Dvorak on Chandos - Järvi + Scottish NO

Oops, yes, pastoralguy, I certainly am getting confused with my conductors...my sincere apologies. But at the end of the day, it really was the great Chandos sound that I was praising above all! This is what comes of having too many discs in one's collection...as we get older, it gets more difficult to remember them all!

It was a shame Jarvi's SNO set of the Shostakovich symphonies was never completed - those I have 1,5,6 and 10 strike me as uncommonly fine.

I bought the 5th. At the time it was the only version in SACD. It was awful. Thank goodness Pletnev and Kitaenko have finished their sets in SACD.

all those not on Chandos with SNO are on DG GSO ie 2 3 11 12 13 14 15.

also the BIS GSO Tchaikovsky symphonies were available last year as a cheap download.

I'm having the same problem! I keep buying duplicate CDs in charity shops thinking I've got a bargain to discovering I have 2 already!

Ha ha, glad to see that I am not the only one who has memory problems where CDs are concerned! I really should start saying "enough"..but there is always the next new CD to come along which manages to tempt...
