Hmm, confusion reigns. Well, it was either the symphony I mentioned earlier, or the concerto. I think on further reflection it was the concerto.

My first Sibelius purchase was the Lemminkainen Suite with the LSO conducted by Anthony Collins, which I bought after first hearing The Swan of Tuonela and deciding I wanted to hear it in context. Gibson/ SNO (not yet Royal) in No 2 was my first Sibelius symphony and I agree with others about Gibson's qualities as a Sibelius interpreter. There is surely room for his interpretations on CD, although I plan to buy the John Sturgarts/ BBC Phil cycle soon. I really enjoyed hearing the cycle live last year in Manchester.

Are you sure it was not Thomas Jensen conducting the Danish State Radio Symphony Orchestra? Decca recording reissued on Ace of Clubs then Eclipse and now on an Australian Eloquence CD?
