The first single that I bought totally single-handedly and with my own money was probably Don McClean's American Pie, 1971.

The first album was Led Zeppelin II in 1972, and the first pop album was much later, probably the first version of The Stylistics Greatest Hits in 1975.

      Alone again, (naturally),Gilbert o'sullivan aged 10' 1972.

What a year. Virginia Plain, Starman, Slade and T Rex everywhere. Glorious. Ear stuck to Radio 1 through a never ending summer of pop, cricket, sunshine, and the radio 1 roadshow.
In my memory, at least !!

Only bought singles, and taped albums off mates for years.
Managed to get a second hand copy of Quo's Piledriver off a mate , prolly my first album, and very good it is too.
Most singles bought in the old WH Smiths in Salisbury, where they had the charts on those boards with moveable plastic letters.

And the OP's first were?...............spill the beans, AG !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I can give you the number of a good 'reputation management consultancy'. Given those purchases, some of your sessions will certainly qualify for NHS funding.

It's a bit late now, but tomorrow I'm going to learn that dance.

Lonnie Donegan: Does your chewing gum lose its flavour on the bedpost overnight? (1959)

                      Honestly.

The first one I bought myself was Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer (1968, I think).

Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma 1990. No. 2 in the singles chart.

LP - The World ot Johann Strauss - successful in the album chart.

If I could time Travel,Buddys two shows, (i think there were two) in Southampton would be very high on my list .

Back on topic, the first pop record I owned was an EP of four songs from A Hard Days Night, which I was given by my cousin.

A hard Days Night, If I fell, Tell me why, And I love her
