First single, aged 10, was Russ Conway playing Sidesaddle. For anyone who does not remember the glories of BBC TV in the late 50s, Russ Conway was the house (honky tonk) pianist on the Billy Cotton Band Show on BBC. Here he is playing it

First album was a Country and Western one - legendary Nashville guitarist and producer Chet Atkins's More of that Guitar Country, which included Yakety Axe, his version of Boots Randolph's Yakety Sax. Now that is worth watching. I was fascinated by guitar playing of every stripe, and bought my first classical guitar LP the same year.

First single: Pepperbox by The Peppers .. never heard of it? Not surprising, but it was Moog driven synth-pop before synth-pop was born.

First 12" single: The Human League - Hard Times/Love Action (I Believe in Love)

First album: Abba - The Album. Still treasure it and have the deluxe CD set now too.

Harry Belafonte, Scarlet Ribbons, As far as I remember it was a 78, I think. Later, the Beatles, Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields - because I knew both places. That's about it. I was never very interested in pop stuff.

My parents had some French popular songs, which I did like. Jean Sablon, Edith Piaf. I remember Le Fiacre, La Vie en Rose, and La Complainte de la Butte, Je ne Regrette Rien. I can still sing all of these, but I don't sound a bit like Piaf, so they don't sound right at all.

I grew up with a 78 of Island in the Sun...with Coconut Woman on the other side.

My first album was Neal Diamond's Greatest Hits. I think my first single was Creedence Clearwater REvival "Have You Ever Seen Rain"?

what 12" singles were invented for.
That and the 12" of Soft Cell's Tainted Love.

can't remember my first 12" single, but it might have been the Psychedelic Furs " pretty in Pink".

good intro, but not my best selection. Came with a free T shirt though.

                    Now yer talking ts

My first twelve inch single was either The Model/Neon Lights (luminous light green vinyl) by Kraftwerk, or Hooray, Hooray, It's A Holiday by Boney M (honestly!). I can't remember which one came out first. I also bought a Can album when I bought the Boney M, so I was a very mixed up 19 year-old!

                    RIP Bobby Farrell

Oh dear, I used to dance to this, worse than the daddy-dancing I used to do! I don't dance, now.

Unfortunately I do remember mine: it was 'Kisses Sweeter Than Wine' by Frankie Vaughan. Ugh! Why? I ask.

First LP not much better: Andy Stewart by Andy Stewart.
