A very dim LP of Mahler 8, conducted by Flipse (live) with Rotterdam forces. Yes, just one LP; I bought it in Selfridges and the two LPs were separated on the shelf. I first of all bought sides 2 and 3 (remember "autochange"?) and then returned to swap them for sides 1 and 4.
I was twelve and that was as far as my pocket money would go.
Of course, I had a particular reason for buying it; I had just sung in the boys' choir at Horenstein's legendary performance at the RAH in 1959. And there began my love -affair with Mahler.

When I bought these LPs, in my mid teens, it was my very first experience of Mahler. (I do love the photo of Bruno Walter on the cover of the LPs - a wonderful face, so full of humanity.)

The sleeve notes were written by Bruno Walter himself.

How does the lp sound after residing in the garage?
