    Presto classical

    Anyone bought from prestoclassical.co.uk?

How long do orders take etc. Good service?

A few CDs I want haven't appeared on amazon or hmv and there have been some very expensive CDs on the mentioned websites which have been very cheap on presto.

Recommended. Mainly because they usually get the discs out much faster than mdt or crotchet, the other comparable independents. They have some good offers, too, and an easy to use website.

I've only used them twice as I normally go to Amazon or MDT. Delivery of said items was OK, no complaints. I see there is an interesting clutch of Australian Eloquence CD's just released and, as this was what I got from them before, I may well make use of them again - in fact I'll do it right now!

I've bought lots of cds and sacds from Presto. Very quick delivery with most items from stock. No problems at all. I find their website easier to use than some of the bigger retailers, with a better search facility and more information on content.

I shop around for what appears to be the best deal re. each item, and quite often that means I order from Presto, but not quite as often as from hmv.com, amazon, Europadisc or MDT. If play.com or Blackwells are cheaper, they get the order. I have certainly never had much of a problem with Presto, just the occasional frustration when they turn out to be unable to supply an item, but that happens with all vendors.

I have never had any problem with Presto. I do shop around but often go back to them. I do find their website useful for finding details of the contents of boxed sets and compilations.

Surely this must be the best label to appear in many a year. In comparative terms with the LP era it is Ace of Clubs, Ace of Diamonds, Eclipse, Universo, Festivo, Classical Favourites, Heliodor and Privilege all rolled into one, and brings back to us many recordings we thought we'd never see again. I have enjoyed many an Ansermet reissue but the reappearance of Decca made RCA discs some of which reappeared on Eclipse and World of LPs is very welcome. Just acquired Fistoulari's World of Ballet a 2CD set of gems from the Decca and RCA catalogues from the 50s. The Bohm VPO Schubert 5/8 and Beehoven 8 and Krips Concertgebouw Schubert 9/Beethoven 4 are next on my list!

That's good news! We had this on an LP at home, and my dad still swears by it as the best performance (other than a live Barbirolli performance my parents heard at a Prom on their honeymoon )

Prestloclassicla is a very good company. Have received orders from them quite a few times and their site is very informative about the rercording your buying.

Ordered the Bohm discs last night, had an e-mail this morning to say order dispatched and wouldn't be at all surprised if they arrive tomorrow. Of course they have no idea I am doing this in the interests of research for this thread!

I've bought from Presto once - receiving excellent, fast service - having been recommended to them by the manager of a CD shop (which isn't near where I live). He and his staff use the Presto website as a resource! High recommendation, I think!

Yep, they came this morning! Excellent service - think I'll be using Presto more often.

Yes I have always found Presto good, as are MDT.

Are the Boehm recordings mono Petrushka, given their early date? What do you make of the sound and interpretation (I have Boehm's DG LvB and Schubert cycles, but they are later recordings).

I am also tempted by the other Eloquence recordings (saves getting them all the way from Oz via Buywell, doesn't it?) by Krips; though as we've touched on before I cannot help but let the late John Culshaw's experiences of the man put me off his recordings somewhat! I know it shouldn't matter, but....

So much for Presto's description of him as "cheery-looking"

When I'm compiling the list of available recordings for this forum in anticipation of the following week's BAL, I go first to the Presto website, filling in with others later. There are small errors, but I've yet to find a better CD website.
