I see that the post to which you direct me is from March 2007!

My you hug these grievances close to your bosom, don't you?
2007? I think you should get your PC, laptop or eyesight checked pronto old love!

No, this was a comment you made last month. As you seem to be having problems with technology or your memory, let me remind you: "You're right of course, doversoul. Snag is if we just ignore him as you suggest, to new members & possible other visitors, it looks like we're letting his posts go unremarked because we agree with them. Thus it might be seen as a reputational issue for the board?"

Given the unpleasant references to men as "totty" I think this is what is called as "hoist on one's petard" don't you?

      Bws.

      Ferret
      How glorious, Ferret!

I appear to be having a senior moment too I'm afraid ... but I'm sure you're right

Gents, gents. This is the sort of thing that gives males a bad name. I'm sure pastoralguy was just sharing his honest enthusiasm for Ida Haendel, but it is fast degenerating.

Sorry about the 2007 reference Panjandrum - I looked at french frank's last post in closing the thread and 2007 is the year given. Obviously I now realise that it's a mistake.

My use of the word 'totty' about Ferret's list of attractive (to us as gay men) pianists was used ironically as men, violinists or otherwise, are very rarely referred to as 'totty', especially in print. However in conversation, straight women and gay men often refer to younger attractive men as 'totty'.

You may be suggesting that this is sexism, hence the reputational issue. 'Sexism' occurs when one gender refers to another as being inferior and has the power and opportunity to use that opinion to the detriment of the other gender. But I did not imply that the men on Ferret's list were otherwise than gifted and attractive. I would argue therefore that no sexism is implied in my post, but rather it is inferred erroneously by you.

If any man (or woman) referred to me as 'totty' I should be both thrilled and amazed, as I am by your calling me 'old love'

And do not forget their sister, the viola player, Irene. She always brought her pet chihuahua to recitals securing its lead to the rear leg of the piano before tuning-up

That was in the later TV version. Brough's ventriloquism was much better on the radio.

An actor friend insists that Peter Brough was known 'in the profession' as Keeta Gruff

With my lawyer's wig on, even though Anna has conceded the point, I think that corroborating evidence might be useful as regards the term 'totty' which was in fact an issue in a real-life case I dealt with, featuring (inter alia) this site: http://tottyworld.blogspot.com/

Je repose ma valise (as the French advocate said)

If we want to go to Scotland by train and avoid London, we have to change at Peterbrough.

Back on topic - since it is 'of all time, Marie Hall (1884-1956) who made the first recording (incomplete) of Elgar's violin concerto, conducted by EE.

RVW dedicated The Lark Ascending to her.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

My apologies. I thought you above all others, amateur, based on your previous proclamations, would have been mindful of possible misinterpretation by innocent visitors to these boards and the consequent "reputation" risk.
Glad we've all put it right.
