Pletnev's Beethoven symphony cycle...

Having bought Pletnev's Beethoven 1&3 with the Russian National Orchestra for a pound this afternoon I've spent a fruitless 40 mins looking up the reviews in Gramophone. I seemed to remember they got a lukewarm welcome and, whilst in the process of listening to a bizarre Eroica first movement, I can understand why.

Does anyone else have an opinion on these recordings?
