    Top 10 Concertos

As we seem to be in a short spell of list mania, yes I take the blame, here is a place to post your favourite Concertos - shall we say one per composer?

One per composer's much more tricky when it comes to concertos. For example, having to choose the Clarinet Concerto over the 27th Piano when it comes to Mozart. With that in mind and in no particular order:

    Beethoven: Violin
    Tchaikovsky: Piano 1
    Prokofiev: Piano 3
    Dvorak: Cello
    Mozart: Clarinet
    Rachmaninov: Piano 2
    Berg: Violin
    Shostakovich: Cello 1
    Brahms: Violin
    Elgar: Violin

Perhaps we could also try producing a top 10 concertos that doesn't include concertos for Piano, Violin or Cello.

My choice at the moment would be:

                    Copland Clarinet
                    Krommer Oboe
                    Martinu Oboe
                    Nielsen Flute
                    Piston Viola
                    Rodrigo Flute
W Schuman Three Colliques for Horn & Orchestra
                    Tubin Double Bass
                    Vaughan Williams Oboe
                    Walton Viola

Very difficult, SC, but here goes (again in no particular order):

                              Mozart: Flute/Oboe K314
                              Strauss: Oboe
Vaughan Williams: Tuba (premiered exactly 1 week after my birth!)
                              Walton: Viola
                              Hummel: Trumpet
                              Haydn: Trumpet
                              Poulenc: Organ, Timpani & Strings
                              Copland: Clarinet
                              Bartok: Orchestra
                              Lutoslawski: Orchestra

(I might have cheated with the last two. That wasn't easy!)
