Cali, have you that double cd from Decca of various Handel offerings? Singers and artists abound with top class artistry!

I don't really know much Handel, but I do have a Decca LP that I bought a few hundred years ago, of the Water Music, Fireworks Music, and the beautiful Largo from 'Xerxes' played by the LSO conducted by George Szell. In fact I may give it a spin later - first time since I was about 17!

I suppose this ought really to have its own thread, but I will just mention my bête noire of Handel recordings:

Also available in SACD format, which is what I foolishly paid nearly a tenner for a few years ago.

Indeed. Though the man had the audacity to sing exactly what Handel wrote.

When I mentioned it (#26) I fully expected to be torn to shreds by the HIPP parade! Big band Handel-Harty superbly recorded by Decca engineers.

Don't think so .... which do you mean?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Don't see why, cloughie - the Thread title is "One Favourite" Handel recording, so it's not as if you're saying that everyone else should share your opinion. If this is how you like your Handel, it's nobody else's business: enjoy (as they say)!

Another favourite Handel recording of mine is the Ferrier/Boult/LPO disc of Arias: the first pieces by Handel I ever heard, sparking a lifelong love for the composer.

Ooh! That's generous, Barbi - I was worried you'd make me choose! (But, if I had to have just the one recording of these pieces, it would be Ferrier.)
