Stravinsky Craft edition

Hurrah! It's been about two years since the last Naxos Craft disc I thought they may have stopped issuing the re-releases of the old koch and Music Matters recordings then this has just shown on amazon:

The Naxos site gives the release month as April. The catalogue number is 8.557532. Googling that number only throws up URLs for the Naxos site. No sign of it at hmv.com (where it is likely to cost but £3.99 including p&p) as yet.

Yes HMV is usually rediculously cheap than elsewhere and I usually get them 2 days if not 3 days early even if they are released on Monday.

Requiem Cnticles is good. I have it on a craft, you know the CD, it has Song of the Nightingale, Dance Concerto, Ephitium, Double Canon, Abraham and Issiac, Variations and Requiem Canticles.
It was never out of my CD holder for a while!

Threni: it's a particularly treasured work for me too. It was in the first Prom I went to, as a schoolboy (1971), conducted by Colin Davis.

Craft seems to be out to set a record for number of recordings. In the Sony 22-CD Stravinsky box he's the conductor for this work (presumably S was no longer up to it?). Craft also did a 1991 Musicmasters version which I have. So this looks like his 3rd as Naxos don't seem to be recycling the 1991 version.

If I snap up the new Naxos that will give me 4. Michael Gielen is the other one, and I really wouldn't recommend it: he seems to get the orchestral sonorities all wrong
