Beethoven Mass in C, Kammerchor Stuttgart, Bernius

Mixed feelings about this one (played on Essential Classics on Tues 21st Jan at 11am). In some ways the faster tempi and lighter forces were a breath of fresh air, but the "return of the beginning at the end" produced absolutely no goosebumps for this listener. Perhaps I am projecting inappropriate 20th Century expectations on a classical piece having heard less "authentic" performances. What do others think?

This one sounds interesting. I'll try listening to it later.

Haven't heard the Bernius, but JEG's Archiv recording from 1989 (c/w Calm Sea) with Monteverdi/ORR is irresistible, and sonically magnificent (All Saints Tooting).
