As with all news on radio and TV, it is indeed heavily laden with 'We have decided for you what is important/good for you to know'.

I would much rather decide on my own selection from newspaper or website, and R3 at least would be better off without any of it.

This was the answer to a listener's complaint when the news went from every hour to every half hour at the end of 2001:

That goes back to the first meeting (pre FoR3) of the Classical Forum reps with Roger Wright. We had few hopes of any of our views being accepted - but ditching the extra news bulletins seemed possible.

Typical BBC. We asked how many listeners had made such a suggestion - no response.

Obviously no one would have been suggesting that we shouldn't have extra news bulletins since it wouldn't have occurred that they might be introduced. 'Listeners' have been complaining ever since but no notice has been taken because it's part of R3's strategy to merge seamlessly with mainstream popular radio stations so that it seems as familiar as possible to our new listeners who are used to regular news in the morning.

'Listeners have suggested that we do away with all news bulletins except those on the hour.' Sorry, you're a tiny unrepresentative minority.

I listened on the way to work. The special music for Children in Need, did not move me to donate. And the idea of downloading........ I have listened to Sarah M-P since she started with Breakfast and at one time defended her. She may be a victim of the Schlock Jock role that R3 wants from the presenters. I wish her luck, I am not a listener of The Choir. But I am not looking forward to Clemency B-H. I had my cup full of her with weekend Breakfasts. But we all now know what to expect from R3.

Not even Radio 4 - the news wavelength - has news announcements every 15 minutes!

Breakfast is unlike - Morning Concert or even On Air used to be ( well at least after Petroc was sacked from On Air) - a brisk espresso - it is more like a horrible cup of Mellow Birds over sweetened with Hermesetas - saccharine and tasteless.
