Saturday Classic - does it get any worse ?

Nishat Khan (him of the over long sitar concerto) seems to have gone to other extreme - CFm sized bites from longer works but seems to have ignored Chinese/Japaneese fusions (he could for example have used the 17th Jesuit music from Japan - if he wanted to widen then also the South American Baroque but he seems to have produced a program designed to fit into less than 5 min gaps between his anouncement of his name, that it is R3 (and not CFm) etc

Yes, pretty thin fare from the 5 minutes I heard - WM's 'Alla Turca' - nice piece I know but

...and then Our Host announced his liking for 'Three Cornered Hat' as if it were an important thing to confide...

I went off him when in the introduction to his Prom he talked about his "home in California"...

    yeah, really authentic
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Oh come on - it's just a filler programme - music to cook by. It's not a serious (aka listening) programme is it? As such I enjoyed the Miles Davis and will ditto the John Foulds whilst my dinner cooks.

But was it worth displacing a good early Saturday evening jazz programme for?

But, JRR was not displaced, was it? I listened. So, your point is?
Everyone should be tuned into R3 permanently so see what they are, or not, missing

Two important modern Italian operas on tonight's H&N, to judge by the flood of enthusiasm for my thread on the New Music bored.

I apologise for going off the topic, but does this actually exist? Where can I find the reference? I know they played the harpsichord and probably taught the boys some works by Josquin. I have been searching for the trace for many years (not terribly seriously) in a hope that the EMS team may be persuaded to produce a programme on the subject.

As for the programme in discussion, I expect Mr Kahm means Where West samples East.

Oh she's sharp! I hope there's a bit of sugar in that redcurrant sauce!

My point is: it would have been an ideal opportunity to have Jazz Library as well as JRR ! Who needed more ClassicFM style pap?

                  ...or pick 'n' mix!

Let's face it - we've had a couple of Proms this afternoon - a bit of space for the Cfm soundalike fans - mind you we had a happy clappers CBSO Prom - Dvorak 8 interruptus! then an opera and J Strauss second half - lovely!

A Jazz Legends would have been even better!

Would have to be repeats, then - they said it was dropped because they'd run out of legends...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Yes, today was OK, I must admit (and turned on full it drowned out the noise of the storm and leaves beating against the windows) but it's such a hit and miss prog - really something to put on if you are stuck for ideas, not something to circle in the RT.
(Nor, I must say, is the new Film Music gig)

                              Anna,

Interesting comment about Film Music. I caught a bit of it last week. My first and last listen.
