It would be a delight to have a presenter who could give these interactions an edge:

Presenter: Do you think it gets played rather too much on the radio?

Phoner in: Um, well, not really, it's famous isn't it

Presenter: But there is so much else which he composed. Would you like to chose something less well known which the listeners might find interesting?

Phoner in: Um, er, [followed by a click and a dialling tone]

It is a truth universally acknowledged that anyone who wants to be Prime Minister is unfit for the job. Likewise, I feel, anyone who wants to be on the radio.......

The reason was probably because the type of listeners to this station, who want to be on the radio, thought the piece was the station call sign, seeing that it is played so often.

When I heard Katie Derham's voice this afternoon I suddenly remembered hearing her earlier this week, might have been Monday or Tuesday. I'm sure I HEARD HER SAY:

'....his trumpet concerto, that was one of Haydn's greatest hits.....'

(edit: checked it must have been Tuesday, I think she mentioned Alison Balsom who'd been featured on the morning programme Essential Classics)

It's well over a year since this thread was started, proclaiming that "The Classic FM-isation of R3 is almost complete ". Has it been completed yet?

Listening on the car radio I heard KD introducing something just after 3.00 on Wednesday afternoon - my hearing is good but she gabbled so much I haven't a clue what she said! It turned out to be Mozart 29 by the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra - quite good too.

Or a jingle tune that's as annoying as the Nokia ring tone (repeated every time they break for a trail or ads, and rearranged in different music styles...)...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

BTW I hear there's a new superfast one in development which gets you to the top of the stairs before you've forgotten what you went up for.

Katie seems quite keen on the word "lovely" these days.

I listened to the Britten War Requiem (the Albert Hall performance) on Classic FM on Tuesday, for the simple reason that not one of the dozen or so performances in the country appeared to be on Radio 3. It was even worse than I expected - fnot the performance, which was so-so, but the presentation and hype surrounding it. The fact that Bryn Terfel was in it appeared to be main selling point. It really was worse than Radio 3.

How can there be 222 messages about a radio channel which is avoided at all costs and despised by all and sundry on this message board ?

That's the reason why CFM listeners are moving to Radio 3 - simple stuff with no ads.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
