Absurd - but factually correct and completely relevant to what I had been saying (as distinct from what you claim I was saying: I'm pleased to see that you now apparently agree that the BBC has a narrow idea of what constitutes 'film music' and cannot, in my view, be trusted with promoting a season of it. I may be surprised at what they come up with.)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the legal action that ITV and Channel 4 will no doubt now be taking against the BBC for it's borrowing of their talent/reality show formats.
Now that you have questioned it, I might rephrase my statement to say that Classic FM 'has right on its side'. But it's true that the BBC has a record of shelling out tens of thousands of licence fee payers' money to defend legal cases, so I doubt the commercials will bother to actually go to law.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

David, I know you say you don't need me to teach you grammar and spelling but do find someone who can help you out with apostrophes: when to use them; and when to avoid them. It would really help us to take you more seriously.

When I think of what DavidP looks like, the Cookie Monster comes to mind; must be the swivelly eyes.

I know - I'm just one of those comprehensive school 'plebs'. But at least it's slightly better than having no argument to contribute.

Effortlessly maintaining your usual debating level I see.

I'm slightly surprised to see you opened your new thread with a post whose first paragraph made two points that i had already made:

              1) That 'paucity of imagination' means that 'film music' (in quotes) effectively means trite blockbusters theme music

              2) That there is no reason to create special 'excuses' to play the music with 'film music seasons' or Proms. Just play it because it's good music.

Oh, good! So you are reading the thread I started? Well, keep following it. Hopefully, it might give you some suggestions to take with you when you see Roger next time.

Well, they are arguments I have made from the beginning. Unlike you, however, I'm not using them as an excuse for R3 not to play any film music at all but to get them to do it better. Why are you so defeatist?

I have no doubt you will deny having said such a thing. I would thoughtfully suggest to other forum members they read your comments both on here and on the John Williams thread before accepting your evasions.

Classic evasion right here: I say concert promoters (including the Proms) have a paucity of imagination in the way they promote film music. Instantly, you subtly change the meaning so that all your loyal followers on here read is 'film music effectively means trite blockbusters theme music'. Job done!

Warning though! Sir Velo may be after you. You put the "I" in your message in lower instead of upper case.

From this description it clearly suggests that the project is about ‘the themes from the blockbusters’ or similarly well know/popular film music.
No, no. Making Music, was formerly the National Federation of Musc Societies, founded in 1935, its history is v interesting and says of itself on its website:

What we do? Making Music is the UK's number one organisation for voluntary music. We thrive on encouraging all kinds of voluntary music groups – bands, festivals, orchestras, music clubs, choirs – and individuals, to be part of our vibrant multi-cultural music scene. (April 2013)
The chances of ‘the themes from the blockbusters’ or similarly well know/popular film music' originating from its members are very slim, aren't they?

Another classic DavidP passive-aggressive Jekyll-and-Hyde moment. FF points out that they agree. DavidP seems surprised, happy. No, angry. Yes. Angry. Damn you all to hell! Gibber, gibber.

I refer you to my post #23 where I made it clear that film music certainly could be played on Radio 3.

And #84 "This is not about 'film music' in general but about how Radio 3 and the Proms apparently interpret it: the blockbusters (see the example of what was played at the 2011 Proms (I missed The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Main Theme from the list)."

                          And again at #98:

"It is your assertion that I 'don’t want R3 to play it at all'."

The word 'effectively' means that the effect or reality is that only the well known pieces are performed, not that what follows is to be taken as a description. That is what I understood you to be referring to as 'paucity of imagination' - no imagination in choosing less well known or ambitious music.

                            Depends on the standards.

"The Adur Concert Band is an adult group and welcomes new members of age 18 and over. We have players of all standards although those who have not reached grade 5 standard may find the music challenging. We play an exciting range of music, including show and film themes, popular standards and special concert band arrangements."

Brook Concert Orchestra: "Light Orchestra Playing music from Popular Light Classics, Radio, Theatre, Film and Modern Theme Tunes. The orchestra is a friendly group of 40 people who meet up once a week on a Tuesday evening and give 5-6 public concerts a year. Always welcome some more string players! Standard should be a minimum of ABRSM Grade 6-8. "

Exmouth Orchestras: "Two orchestras that can support people who can't afford to play a symphonic instrument. No auditions as we can cope with all abilities from grade 1 to post grade 8. Mostly ""light"" music including film, show, swing and light classical. "

And I thought Tony Blair was the master at this kind of thing but you beat even that. Congratulations! I vividly remember when Blair was PM and the fox-hunting ban came up for discussion he received two lobby groups at No. 10. One group was pro-fox-hunting and the other anti-fox-hunting. At the end both groups emerged from Downing Street firmly believing he whole-heartedly agreed with them. Pure genius!
