If only I'd known all those years ago that I could have avoided so much despair by simply avoiding news at ten and the Telegraph.
RVW should be available on prescription IMV.

Wonderful post ER. Didn't think of you as someone who gets depressed but, after all, we don't really know each other. I 'm very depressed at the moment, my depressions lift if I lose my back pain, or I hear from a friend, but yours was more serious.

I think I agree about RVW being a good tonic, likewise one or two others for me as well.

Bestio, as friend Mahlerei always says to me. saly

Hope your depression soon lifts saly.

        Stick some RVW on.

The Lark works well (don't read it's bad press).

I wrote a poem about it you know.

        My beautiful ascending lark.
Your critics are wide of the mark.
It's not your fault it seems to me.
        Overworked by Radio three.
When you rise and begin to round.
I love that silver chain of sound.
Over the course of many years.
You've brought sheer delight to my ears.
And so much pleasure still to give.
I'll love you as long as I live.

I know, teamsaint. Best not to think of it too much. (Unless you live close to an area that's going to be 'fracked'! )

Yes. Same news at 8 am on R4.

Good news about the queen, though. I don't mind so much foregoing a pay rise for a few more years if it helps her get an extra 5%. Last time I saw her, she did appear to be down to her last few bob.

Effing daft wasn't it? My radio went off too.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

oh , and to add insult to perjury, apparently (and much trumpeted by the BBC) we now didn't have a double dip recession. The figures for Q2 (?) 2012 have been "revised", and it turns out that instead of being minus 0.1% the economy was flat, so we didn't have two consecutive quarters of a shrinking economy at all.
                      So everything is ok.

Radio 3 has replied on its Facebook page: "BBC Radio 3 Hi Rob, that's more-or-less what you get, except during Breakfast and In Tune, times when we find people want a bit more news. Steve B".

While I know Facebook is anathema to most forum users, I would urge anyone hear to respond with their views on this post. There is a chance that R3 might just be listening.

And there are about 20 people here who disagree with the 'official voice' of Radio 3. I bet listeners were never asked - they griped enough when the news on the half hour was introduced, as well as on the hour. That was in about 2003.

[And I'm pleased to see you don't have to 'Like' their page before posting.]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Oh PURE JOY on the ruddy 18h00 Radio 3 news.... this gem (can't remember who was reading it):

"And Britain's Laura Robson beat Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino in straight sex...

                              ...errrrr, sets"

There was a distinct struggle against the giggles as he went on to give the weather (not quite on a par with James Naughtie disgracing himself after Jeremy Hunt-gate)... and Sean Fafferty broke the tension by observing that "Wimbledon is very exciting this year"

                              Time for a weekend!
"...the isle is full of noises,
