28th have been listening from 17:00 to 18:00 today and Suzi Klein's contibution is absolutely dire, especially in requesting suggestions for next week's Essential Classics - can't believe that they would choose such dire stuff for introducing classical music to a new listener - Scarlatti on the piano and a dire, ancient recording of orchetral Schubert!!!!!!

Interesting - I just popped round the corner to my local Italian restaurant for some supper, and, being Italians, they were playing - Classic FM. I came in to the third movement of Mzt Symph. 41. Since I was more focused on the food (spezzatino di pollo cacciatore, or Hunt the Chicken), the only thing that caused a bit of pain was the mention of a Mercedes Benz, and the possibility of winning an iPad though some link with Sky. Otherwise, it came over as a fairly gentle voice, announcing a piece of music, and then a piece of wallpaper. It didn't positively annoy me in that situation, even if it didn't enthuse me.
I find it hard to understand why people who enjoy Breakfast, and wouldn't dream of listening to CFM 'because of the adverts', can possibly put up with the clatter of chat and, tweets, and texts, and invitations to 'get in touch', and people getting in touch. It is far noisier and more distracting than Classic FM's presentation; and since people are (apparently) too busy to register what the music is, I don't understand why these listeners don't find CFM preferable. But then, a far larger number do find it preferable. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Honoured Guest
In Tune comedy classic today (from memory, not verbatim):
SEAN RAFFERTY: Congratulations, Yuja Wang, on your residency with the LSO for the next four years!
YUJA WANG: Two weeks.
SR: (wondering if the Chinese-Canadian word for "four years" is "tu wix") Eh?
YW: Four concerts.
SR: (blustering on, unperturbedly) Well, some commentators have had the cheek and rudeness to comment on your incredibly short mini-dresses, so we won't mention that! What do you think when people comment about your incredibly short mini-dresses?
YW: I like to wear what I look good in.
