I've enjoyed In Tune this week, even if not everything was my tasse du thé - musicians from the Globe theatre, for example. A great way to discover new performers, like today's lovely singer, Esther Brazil (sp.? as it's not online at present) singing an unknown piece by Buxtehude very well today. Either Jonas Kauffman and Antonio Pappano are up next, or I've missed them.
It loved to happen. -- Marcus Aurelius

Indeed - they've been talking about Don Carlo, and Act 1 or not, see other thread.....

Aha! A budding Frank Carson...it's the way you tell 'em, TS.

Naturally, I meant unknown to me...should've been tacit, squire. As for Sean Rafferty, I like the man. I'm not bothered by his occasional - alright, frequent - lapses...he's a genial host, who offers encouragement and praise to younger performers, a soft spray of light banter that is sometimes quite witty, and, from time to time, he seems genuinely moved by the music he's heard played. Of course, few people here seem to like him; but then one wonders, who do they like on R3?

Richard: I was hoping JK might sing. His fee's probably too expensive now.

sorry if that is a bit negative.
There is no excuse for poor research either.
Oh no, it's not a bit negative - its a lot negative!

I think Sean is an excellent host & he makes the programme - Petroc is OK, Suzy Klein is dreadful - sounds as if she's putting too much effort into it, whereas Sean makes it seem delightfully easy (as in 'at ease') as if a few friends have dropped by for a cup of tea.

The show could be so much better though. Perhaps I am looking for something that isn't intended, I assume it is meant to be a magazine style show.
TBH, SR may have an easy going style (not easy on my ears, but there you go) but his obsequious interviewing style, apparent inability to research or have anything researched properly are not the stuff of which good radio presentation is made.
                  I could add more, but I won't , because..well just because !!
enthusiasm for his guests and the music just isn't enough, well not for me.
                  But never mind.

Look on the bright side - he's not continually asking people to tweet, or answer quizzes. & his guests do have a connection with music.

                        Next Thursday's show looks good.

I see the R3 schedules helpfully mention what time the news bulletins are !!

Isn't that what R4 and 5live are for?

Lets see if Raffers can get through without saying star or stellar more than a couple of dozen times.
                        Enjoy !!!

Did anyone hear the Lendvai String Trio (I think) playing away while two men chatted in the foreground? Classic example of live radio at its most, well, lively (from SK's comments later I think it might have been two guests in an unscripted sartorial discussion).

Yep, highly amusing - I'm surprised they didn't spot it earlier. No apology from SK though.
