Apologies if this programme/general rant has been done before - forgive a tyro! I was driving home at about 11.30-ish last night and I turned on Radio 3. I knew Late Junction would be on but sometimes there's some interesting or decent stuff I can listen to for the twenty-minute journey. What came on was innocuous enough. A vaguely Latin rhythm section with a pleasantly arpeggeating guitar. And that was it. The chord didn't even change. After a minute I was wondering if something was going to happen. After a minute-and-a-half I was bored. After three or four minutes I was angry and turned it off. It sounded like someone had pressed 'synchro start' on a Casio keyboard, played the chord of F (or whatever) and walked away.
What is the point? Who thinks we're going to be edified by this? Seriously, is there an agenda for providing a platform for music that is so boring it makes you want to bang your head against the wall?
Phew! That feels better.
