Faute de mieux I had EC on in the car this morning, and was quite bowled over by Peter Hurford's playing of Bach's 'Dorian' Toccata and Fugue. Is he the best Bach player of all time? Technically perfect, incredible sense of rhythm and forward momentum, subtle phrasing and articulation....and he chose wonderful instruments to record on. Quiote an acievement for a Somerset lad, not to mention his splendid tenure as O & C at St Alban's. I thought Sarah Walker's introduction, 'the player needs steady hands and a cool head because there is an almost constant flow of notes' could apply to quite a lot of music really!
