The Radio Times, can it sink any lower than this week's issue?

antongould: no, but it does cover 16 days, apparently. The current issue is worth buying for the message from Head of Deliverance Ian Fletcher (aka Hugh Bonneville).

I found the D 960 by chance and enjoyed the performance very much.

If you have to get it I think it's cheaper with a subscription. Not sure if it's one of the ones which get even cheaper (considerably) if paid for with Nectar or Tesco points, but it might be.

            Head of Deliverance????!!!!

I wonder what his motto theme would be.

"He trusted in God that He would deliver Him
Let Him deliver Him, if He delight in Him"

            ?

Family brought me the RT for 5-11th January today. The good news - two live concerts on the Wedn and Friday of that week - the bad news, it's gone up to a whopping £1.60.

Is it worth it or are we trapped if we want the music details ?

I think it's worth it, though it is quite expensive, I suppose. I have it delivered, and if for some reason it doesn't turn up I get really worried and upset. It's just an easy way of having all television and radio details together in one place. To me it's still much easier to read than details online.

I agree - I also have it delivered and look forward to its arrival each week. It is still the best TV listings magazine by a long way, and the only one with any sort of detailed radio schedule.

Radio listings are woefully inadequate, despite being less bad than the rest. An expansion to 3 or 4 pages per day would be most welcome.

If some readers are unhappy with the new price of 1.60, then adding 2 pages per day purely for radio listings would surely put the price up yet further and drive buyers away. Personally I find the radio listings are more than adequate.

One way to get the price down would be to cut the pages that are not listings. There is an awful lot of unnecessary junk in there I just don't need.

Radio Times is still Britain's best selling weekly magazine, so I rather doubt if they would wish to cut the non listing pages which are their main source of income from advertising. There would have to be more than a few of us requesting changes before ant action took place.

Well, there really is no need to have the 'pick of today's TV' on two full pages - you can pick your own! That's ten pages saved straightaway. I take the point about advertising revenue but those pages do not carry adverts on any side of them.

Agree with Mr Pee that the radio pages are still the best around but the junk in the magazine wouldn't be missed and they could keep the price down.

Agreed. In fact they’re often not really ‘listings’ at all. For instance, for the whole of the R3 9.00-12.00 slot every weekday morning (‘Essential Classics’) RT never lists more than the one work played at 11.00. So for 15 hours every week only five pieces are listed. Ditto for the 9.00-12.00 slot on Sundays, where at the moment only the Bach cantata is listed, and we’re not even told when it’s being played.
