I've always thought that 'OF&H' appeals only to the very people it parodies. People who think it represents them.
My main point was about the opera episode where Delboy, as cultured as any cockney barrow boy, only wakes up when he hears a catchy melody familiar to the masses. Is this not the mentality which dominates R3 output these days?
However, seeing my main point was missed and the 'talents' of such witless buffoons provide an easy distraction, i am given to wonder how anyone dares take the cultural high ground regarding R3's programming.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Sometimes - usually after reading some of the more profound utterances on the Forum - I feel a proper Trotters Independent Trader.

We have a great little team at work, and we are always swapping music recommendations. Its mostly rock, but I am working on slipping some DSCH/Beethoven or whatever under the radar...and at least I get a polite response.
EG..."I was working away quite nicely to this until it all kicked off at 3 mins 30 secs !"
(Guess the work !)
don't know why I said all that other than to say , really, its all just music, as SA suggests.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

"Blimey", says the attendant, "what company do you work for?"
"I work for Cunard" says the customer.
"Well I work ******* hard as well", replies the attendant, "but I don't get a company car!"

Ok - i dont want to talk about OnlyFools&Horses. Regarding "ivory towers" etc, i rather thought this whole website was formed in order to decry the depths to which R3 has sunk, upon which we look down.
The cultural moron that is Delboy provides a perfect example of the kind of person R3 is attempting to please, with particular regard to Essential Classics. I rather thought this would be something upon which we would easily agree.
