That's a bit ambiguous. Did the falling listener numbers mean they had to cut costs by sacking their presenters, or did they get the sack because they were causing people to switch off?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I would imagine the former, but who knows?

According to an article in the Telegraph, the station's schedule is 'evolving' is response to a fall in listener numbers, one benefit of said evolution being 'more music' for listeners.

I don’t know anyone who listens to Scala, or of a real reason for its existence.

When you have so few listeners in the first place losing a few thousand makes a difference...
BBC Radio 3 listeners are down and Classic FM’s audience is its second lowest on record, according to new figures from RAJAR (Radio Join Audience Research). Released today, the figures cover the second quarter of 2024.

Radio 3 weekly listenership up 3.3% year-on-year to 1.995 million, and up 12.4% on the previous quarter. Average hours per listener up 11% to 8 hours. Might 'steady as she goes' be a fair comment while we await evidence of the consequences of young Jackson's 'refresh'?

                    Goes where, though?
Rapidly downhill, for many of us, I fear.

Perhaps our ship is being steered in the wrong direction and some of its passengers are very unhappy, but at least it's still afloat. Scala Radio can best be described as a leaking dinghy, while Classic FM seems to be losing power as the relentless fall in it listener numbers continues.

Indeed, but of course maybe the CFM2 approach will attract more CFM listeners - following Lee Hazlewood’s lead ‘ I’m goin’ to Jackson ‘!

You're probably right, but it seems that the rate of decline is increasing.
Shows how long I've not been listening for.
Gone are the days of my youth (in more ways than one!).
