Did anyone else find the interview with young Brendel protegee uncomfortable listening this afternoon on In Tune? Clearly someone of great intellect with his abilities in both music and mathematics, but Armstrong was certainly not receptive to Sean Rafferty's usual 'guffawing' style of interviewing, but I found his intensity and carefully considered replies almost creepy. As a performer, I don't know whether he is someone I could warm to.

He has a brilliant mind and a very contained personality. Perhaps he was the one who didn't feel comfortable? What's his repertoire these days?It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world. -
Why on earth should a musician be expected to give interviews? They can be interesting for others to listen too, but they not essential.Comment

An interview with Michael Church last year gives the impression that he does have a sense of humour! I heard him play in Bristol last year (Bach and Liszt) and he gave a tremendous performance.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
