    Please, make it stop!

Yes - I've got the message - Jesus' love never failed him. Now end it!

Unlike Rob's guest, I didn't want to protect the singer, but throttle him.

It is one of RC's favourites and has made an appearance or two before. I have to say that this time I am with Flosshilde. Perhaps it accounts for the slightly stressy mood I'm in right now. Mind you, final act of Meistersingers cheers one up no end!

I am a fan of Gavin Bryars but can truly say this work loses me. I don't get it, understand it or like it. But was greatly cheered by the final act of Meistersingers as stated above.

I agree with fellow posters. If anywhere this piece belongs on Late Junction, and for this listener anyway, is something to be enjoyed once only as a musical novelty but then endured thereafter. As a musical piece it is twice as long as it needs to be and runs out of steam half way through.

Quite right Domey! Infuriating that they played it at all - and worse that they only played 10 minutes of it - another bleeding chunk! It must have driven you mad!

Only for those listening too casually to note the development of the accompaniment.

I remember that it was quite a feature of the early days of Classic FM - on the Saturday morning 'chart show' I think. I find it hypnotic and very moving - and it needs a good hi-fi system on fairly loud, which brings out the build up of the instrumental accompaniment to the repeated vocal line.

It was even more powerful at the premier, back in December 1972. On that occasion the repeated AlanPower film clip it was written to accompany was projected on a screen erected on the stage of the QEH. Must admit though, I have never as much warmed to the extended versions.

Sorry, but I lack the necessary ear/training/stamina/little grey cells!

It might have greater effect in that format, perhaps as a video in an art gallery. As a piece of music played on 'Breakfast' (or whatever the programme is called - they rather merge into one) it singularly failed to engage me.

                            absolutely
and to notice the unevenness in the singer which gets more and more beautiful as it goes on.........
listen with the "wrong ears" and you will be disappointed but thats like complaining that Haydn's string quartets are missing the trumpet solo
