One of the great things about TTN is that we are more likely to get whole works than we are in the day. Radio 3 (bless you) seem desperate to compete with Classic FM and for much of the day we only get odd movements.

TtN hosting another Doctor Who Prom?
The best of the BBC, with the latest news and sport headlines, weather, TV & radio highlights and much more from across the whole of BBC Online
That's the schedule page which at the time of posting is for Tuesday 17 September 2013. It's the first item (also the last on the page for Monday 16th) to which I draw attention. 20111?!

NOT A Film Music Week
Apart from the first 2 hours on Tuesday, Through the Night is holding up against the deluge of film music. Its offerings include rarities (to me, that is) such as:
Wednesday 25
Jonathan Swain presents Attilio Ariosti's opera La fede ne' tradimenti
12:32 AM
Ariosti, Attilio [1666-1729]
La fede ne' tradimenti (Fathfulness amid Betrayal)
HÃ¥vard Stensvold (bass) (Garzia (King of Navarre)); Roberta Invernizzi (soprano) Anagilda (sister of the King of Navarre); Marianne Beate Kielland (mezzo soprano) (Fernando (Prince of Castille)); Lucia Cirillo (soprano) (Elvira (sister of Fernando)), Europa Galante (orchestra) and Fabio Biondi (director)
…and on Thursday and Saturday
12:31 AM
Arensky, Anton Stepanovich [1861-1906]
Quartet no. 2 (Op.35) in A minor
Atrium Quartet
1:01 AM
Arensky, Anton [1861-1906]
Trio no. 1 in D minor Op.32 for piano and strings
Eggner Trio
Unless I am missing some obvious film links to all this…

Yes... I've been listening to my recording of the programme from last Fri/Sat night, a particularly good sequence billed as
Danish National Symphony Orchestra Episode 1 of 2
But also - in the desperate, tenuous way we've become used to this week - as
"Sound of Cinema." "In the 75th Anniversary year of Eisenstein's film "Alexander Nevsky" - Prokofiev's cantata"
But that cantata was just one work in the concert which began the programme, the first work in which was a really EXCELLENT performance of:
1:01 AM
Rachmaninov, Sergey [1873-1943]
Concerto for piano and orchestra no. 3 (Op.30) in D minor
Marianna Shirinyan (piano), Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Hans Graf (conductor).
Following the Prokofiev there were then blissful hours of music with nothing whatever to do with the cinema.
Only available on iPlayer today.... .Recommended! Try to hear at least the Rachmaninov 3rd PC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b039vh1r"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Another good looking programme tonight, which will be recorded for use Through The Day in place of the nth Warsaw Concerto et al. ad naus. - some interesting piano trios
1:01 AM
Turina, Joaquin [1882-1949]
Trio for piano and strings no. 2 (Op.76) in B minor
1:16 AM
Granados, Enrique [1867-1916]
Trio for piano and strings (Op.50)
1:41 AM
Schubert, Franz [1797-1828]
Trio for piano and strings (D.897) in E flat major "Notturno"
1:52 AM
Chausson, Ernest [1855-1899]
Trio for piano and strings (Op.3) in G minor
2:23 AM
Chaminade, Cecile [1857-1944]
Finale from Trio no.2 in A minor
2:29 AM
Chopin, Fryderyk [1810-1849]
Introduction and polonaise brillante (Op.3) arr. for piano trio
Philippe Talec (violin), Antoine Landowski (cello), Boris de la Rochelambert (piano)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The Chausson is a discovery for me; the Concert and St Qt have long been favourite pieces so this will be keenly anticipated auditioning.
