    Terrific work, as ferney says.

    .
I wouldn’t want to be without those you mention or Colin Davis!

Thanks Ferney... but my was more because I didn't realise how well it's known... Forumistas with multiple versions, JEG at the Proms.... Clearly some catching up for me to do here, and not at 1 a.m!

I was introduced to Symphonie Fantastique quite early in my 'classical education' and still love it - and what a ground-breaking work that was!

          Hello cloughie,

I never cease to be amazed by how different we all are. I've heard the Symphonie Fantastique so many times live, and written reviews, that I'm thoroughly tired of hearing it. I now tend to avoid it, if I can. However, as it is such a wonderful work, I suspect that after a break I'll be returning to it with fresh ears.

A classical sin bin of overplayed masterpieces - Sibelius VC, Elgar CC, Mozart 40... However Bolero is red carded!

Does that mean it's not a sin if the listener has not heard them before, as many might?

Everyone can have their own sin bin or none at all if they choose. That is the beauty of personal musical choice!

                  Wednesday 6 November

An arpeggione concert; very much a TTN speciality.

Schubert plus Bernhard Heinrich Romberg (1767-1841), Louis Spohr (1784-1859), and Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837).
Half guitar, half cello, the extinct arpeggione is resurrected for this concert.

                      No more Friday night TTN?

Very disappointed at 0500 today to discover that TTN was not on.... Further investigation reveals that Friday night is now Jazz Through the Night.

The "all-nighter" was a "special" coinciding with the opening of this year's London Jazz Festival, kernel. Next week it's back to the more familiar format :

Early music ensemble La Guirlande showcase 18th-century Spanish music. With Jonathan Swain

(There should be a national radio station devoted to Jazz, and broadcasting through the night, IMO.)

There was one - it was CALLED Jazz fm, which it wasn't for long, so they acknowledged that with a name change to Smooth fm - which some said it wasn't, so it went back to being Jazz fm - which it isn't.

Just right for my mood - Silent Music.

TTN, at least the first part, may be taking a cue from the previous programme, Unclassified. But it appears to do it much better. Not a fan of Unclassified. A lot of hot air theorising and categorising of the music, but the end result? Well rather flat, imv.
