In the last couple of weeks I've come to hugely enjoy Catriona Young's style of presenting TTN. She finds interesting things to say about the music and composer, and creates clever links between essentially unrelated pieces. Her microphone technique is beguiling and she often speaks personally of her liking for a particular item. I like her so much I forgive her for sometimes ommitting to announce the performers - sometimes IIRC even what the music she's about to play is! A brilliant asset to this programme, which remains one of my favourites on R3.

To be clear, her back-announcements are always perfect - work, composer, artists etc - but she will often not announce (I refuse to write pre-anything!) the artists, and occasionally, not name the work itself before it's played - a broadcasting habit that I mostly abhor. Oh well, I guess I've 'got her under my skin'!

The composer's name is Jacob Clement or latinized Jacobus Clemens.
for some (unknown) reason someone somehow found it necessary to add an epithet to make it clear that Jacobus Clemens was NOT the pope of the day, Clemens (iirc both Clemens VII and Clemens VIII reigned during the composer's lifetime).

Hence: Clemens non Papa i.e. Clemens NOT the Pope

This TtN announcement is simply a ridiculous one, made by someone who hasn't a clue about the background of this (nick)name.
