But seriously, they have interviewed an American guest around teatime every day for weeks! There's one on now. What is going on?

I understand that the New York Philharmonic and, separately, André Previn are in town.

Would that be Andre Previn, Knight of the British Empire?

Re. Mr. Preview's honour: indeed - bestowed, unless I've been misinformed, for services to passengers on the 49 bus route and in recognition of his unique academic paper: 'The Struggle against Nordic Noir - A Study of the Interface between Grieg's Piano Concerto and Broad-Dissemination Visual Humour'

The answer to that hardly needs to be said,
for it lies in the original context of this thread..
... as someone once commented so poetically.

This thread is about Classic FM influence on R3 so I'm hard pushed to see how your comment answers the point. If, however, you are replying to m#46 about American influences, I beg to inform you that Mr Previn is an American citizen and as such, his being a knight of the british empire is irrelevant. Previn was appointed an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1996. (Not being a citizen of a Commonwealth Realm, he may use only the post-nominal letters KBE and not the title "Sir André".)

                  I wasn't. (#43-45.)

Well, you were actually replying to m#47 but you've obviously got confused. Either way #43-5 have no bearing on the title (sic) of this thread.

As I said, Previn is American so this is irrelevant to any point about the British Broadcasting Corporation.

But not necessarily in that order!

And as a major contributor to the British music scene over the last 50 years and as the past Chief Conductor of two British orchestras I am always delighted when he graces our airwaves. I don't give two hoots whether he's American or British. A brilliant musician - Conductor, Composer, Arranger, Pianist and his Music Night was wooing the popular classics market in some style, 20 years before CFM was born!(Sir) Andre!

No-one has a greater appreciation of the services which Mr Previn has rendered to the British music industry. However, for another poster to suggest that by having Previn on Radio 3 has somehow resulted in fewer Americans on the channel is disingenuous at best, and sophistry by most standards.

You may not have noticed but the (Sir) was bracketed!

Quite so! Who made such a "suggestion"?
