what next for Saturday afternoons?

Having given this some thought, I suggest the following, each to run for a limited number of weeks each year:

(1) a revival of Brian Kay's Light Programme (or something similar);

(2) a series of organ recitals;

(3) a listeners' request programme, subject to the following constraints:

(a) the programme to have a knowledgeable presenter, who will stick to giving only useful information about the works to be performed;
(b) whole works only - no "bleeding chunks";
(c) no work to be included which has been broadcast on Radio 3 in the previous 18 months (or some suitable longer period)
(d) works normally to be played using the original instrumentation (e.g. no harpsichord music to be played on a piano, no arrangements (even by the original composer)).

Clearly the constraints suggested in (3) would need some expansion/clarification/interpretation. It might also sometimes be good to have a whole programme devised by a listener with explanation of why the works have been selected to go together.

"Who owns Scotland?" indeed. Though as usual there is misinformation. Gas (fracking) may be less environmentally damaging than other forms of energy, but it is still a fossil fuel, so unless I've missed something it is not 100% environmentally friendly, as will contribute to warming - whether you believe in that or not.

Actually Ravel's La Valse is a decent offering, but I could have done without all the largely irrelevant preamble from KD. Multitasking between R3 and R4 right now, and about to make/drink tea.
