There had already been a cock-up earlier in the morning (circa 9.45). As I got back in the car SW was apologising that two (?) movements, had not been what we had expected.

And then at 9.20 they played a recording of a bell chiming, instead of the announced piece by Tallis. Seemed to take an inordinate amount of time before they spotted the mistake and took it off the gramophone. Poor SW, wasn't her day was it. Must be wondering what she is doing there. Ask not for whom the bell tolls Sarah....

Ditto today, freezing and windy and damp: RVW Sinfonia Antartica... The fanfares in the first movement as I passed under Wellington Arch at H.P. Corner... The big organ section later as I rode down Fleet Street with St Paul's rising ahead at the top of Ludgate Hill.

One possible explanation is that the play-out system has become unused to playing complete works, all movements in the right order.
